108 flannel quilt backing is hard to find in a full width, and it is the single best upgrade you can make to a quilt that is going to be used rather than displayed. The brushed surface adds real warmth and a softness that quilting cotton cannot match.

Flannel is worth handling a little differently. It has more stretch and more loft than quilting cotton, so a light starch before basting keeps it stable, and most longarmers prefer a slightly looser tension and a slower pass. Prewashing is worth doing here even if you skip it on cotton, because flannel shrinks more.
